Our Pub Awards & Good Beer Guide Entries

Beer scores are the fundamental element in the selection of our seasonal and annual pub awards and our entries in the Good Beer Guide

We encourage all CAMRA members to score beers at every opportunity to help ensure the integrity and accuracy of the awards and the entries in the guide.

For information on beer scoring please click here How to score beer .

Pub of the Season

Each quarter Jan-Mar,Apr-Jun,Jul-Sep,Oct-Dec the beer scores are counted and the three pubs with the highest average beer scores are shortlisted for the Pub of the Season. Branch members are then asked to vote (one member one vote) for the seasonal award winner. Members should ideally visit the pubs and cast their vote taking CAMRA’s Pub of the Year Judging Guidelines into consideration.

Pub of the Year

Once our Autumn Pub of the Season has been decided (usually at our February branch meeting) we then call for volunteers for the Pub of the Year judging panel. The judging panel will then visit all four pubs of the season and use CAMRA’s Pub of the Year Judging Guidelines and the weighted scoring system to determine our Pub of the Year and runner-up.

Our Rutland CAMRA Pub of the Year and runer-up are announced at our March branch meeting and the award ceremonies scheduled for early spring.

Rutland CAMRA’s Pub of the Year then goes forward to the competition for the East Midlands Region CAMRA Pub of the Year and potentially from there on to CAMRA's highly coveted National Pub of the Year.

Good Beer Guide Entries

Our branch is currently allocated seven entries in the annual Good Beer Guide. In early March our four Pubs of the Season (subject to any significant change in ownership or operation) are submitted plus three other pubs. We determine these three further entries by reviewing the highest average beer scores for the pubs not winning a POTS award along with the Pub of the Year Judging Guidelines
